So, I decided to create a video game using Python the other day. I chose Python over Unity or Unreal Engine because I wanted to make it using code only. This will allow me to flex my Python coding muscles as well as create something that can provide entertainment for others while also teaching them.

Teaching them? What do you mean? An educational game? :/

No!!! It is not an educational game, per se, but it is a game like Space Invaders that presents some biological features. My education is in biology, after all, so I decided to theme my games under the biology umbrella.

I started writing my code using a tutorial because I haven't coded in a while, as you may have noticed from my lack of posting articles. As such, I was looking for a quick refresher, which ended up being highly beneficial as it got my coding juices flowing and my imagination running wild. I will develop this game firstand plan to develop others soon after its completion.

I had been thinking about creating a game for a bit, restarting my coding journey, which had stalled since I began teaching middle and high school STEM courses, but my wife was the true catalyst, or enzyme – biology joke-, to my game creation goals. She encouraged me to take up a hobby, instead of using my free time to stress over my career and financial future, which was good advice. She knew I enjoyed coding and suggested I restart that as a hobby, which I wholeheartedly said YES to. Which brings me to why I began writing this blog post.

My goal is to take you on my journey of game development. Here, and on my YouTube channel, I have a YouTube channel by the way

>>> https://www.youtube.com/@NeuroDude64 <<<, I plan to post articles and videos about my coding adventure. On this site, I plan to upload snippets of code as well, so stay tuned for that, because I want you to learn to code along the way as well. My purpose in doing this is to improve my coding, get really good at Pygame, and potentially join a game jam where I can practice my coding skills under pressure. My goal is not to make a game to sell, although if I can make some money from it that would be a bonus, which means I can freely publish snippets of my code online so you can use them on your projects, if you see any value in them.

My next post will probably have the start of the code I am using to make my game, as well as a link to the tutorial I am using. I imagine I should be writing that soon, maybe over the weekend. Videos will come later because they take longer to make, and I need to figure out how to screen record my code. And if you need any help in algebra, check out my channel now, as I have some videos covering some challenging algebra concepts. (>>> https://www.youtube.com/@NeuroDude64 <<< I hear the guy who makes these videos is really smart!)
